  • Sheri Garf Sheri Garf Sheri Garf

Once upon a time, I would have never considered doing yoga. I grew up as an athlete – I played soccer, basketball, and softball. I loved skiing, swimming, and hiking. For me, exercise was a source of fun (and sometimes stress relief). I didn’t associate it with fitness or health or how I looked.

When I was a senior in college. I got sick. Long story short, what started out seeming like a virus or flu became three years of debilitating fatigue. I remember looking down at my own body and feeling detached from it.

I couldn’t “exercise,” so I tried yoga. I discovered a way to move that made me feel better, not worse! It was a new beginning. I don’t credit yoga with my recovery, but it did help me on my journey. No matter how I felt at the beginning of a yoga class, I felt better at the end. It became an important part of my life, and remained so even after I was able to workout and play sports again.

In 2005 I was certified as a yoga instructor at Kripalu, the largest and most established yoga center in North America, and I have been teaching ever since. My goal as an instructor is to ensure each student loves being at class, so I will give you ample opportunity to push yourself while encouraging you to give in and take a break when needed. And yes, we have a little fun, too.

When I’m not teaching, I work as a freelance writer for a vegan food company and do the stay-at-home mom thing with my two boys, ages four and seven. Oh, and I still love exercise and outdoor activities as much as I did growing up! Luckily, my husband and kids do, too.
